Morphological Features:

Pileus up to 15 cm in diameter, cloud-grey, convex to flattened, slightly infundibuliform with age. Smooth and glabrous, with a separable cuticle and regular margin.

Lamellae decurrent on the stipe, pale cream-colored, easily separable from the pileal flesh.

Stipe solid when young, becoming cavernous at maturity, slightly clavate and very pale grey, almost whitish. It has a robust habit and a rather fibrous consistency.

Flesh white, fairly compact, solid and thick in the pileus, fibrous in the stipe, with a strong and highly characteristic odor that is unforgettable once smelled, allowing the species to be identified by its scent alone.

Habitat:

If anything is characteristic of this species, apart from its odor, it is its adaptability to virtually any habitat. We have found it in pine forest clearings, beechwoods, among heather, under cypresses, under oaks, and even in city centers, beneath hazel bushes.

Observations:

As the saying goes, tastes differ; some delight in tasting this mushroom while others cannot even stand to look at it. The truth is that it can be delicate on certain stomachs. A f. alba exists, which is completely white. This species is often confused with Entoloma sinuatum (toxic), which has a slightly farinaceous odor, adnexed lamellae, and salmon-colored spores.
