Volvopluteus gloiocephalus
(DC.) Vizzini, Contu & Justo

Study description
Species typical of grasslands, grassy areas, or fields, with a campanulate to convex cap, retaining a central umbo, 5 to 12 cm in diameter, with a slimy brownish-grey surface, free pink gills due to sporulation, a solid cylindrical stipe with a volva at the base, a raphanoid odour, and a sweet taste.
Filamentous cuticle formed by cylindrical hyphae arranged parallel, 3 to 7 µm wide, those of the upper part separated from each other by gelification, with light brown pigment inside, septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia clavate to fusiform, 50 to 85 µm long by 14 to 18 µm wide, and occasionally with a short apical neck.
Pleurocystidia scattered, with morphology and measurements identical to those of the cheilocystidia.
Basidia clavate, ventricose, 30 to 45 µm long by 12 to 16 µm wide, with a simple base and tetrasporic.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, moderately thick-walled, pale yellowish-brown under the microscope, 12 to 16 µm long by 7.5 to 9 µm wide, with a minute eccentric apiculus at one end, containing oil drops of varying sizes inside, and without reaction in Melzer's reagent (inamyloid).
