Suillus bovinus
(L.) Roussel

Study description
A species typical of pine forests on acidic soils, with a convex to flattened cap, 5 to 12 cm in diameter, viscid surface, yellowish-brown, very irregular, elongated, labyrinthine yellow pores, a cylindrical stipe finely punctate with a reddish base, unchanging flesh on cutting, without distinctive odour and sweet in taste.
Pileipellis composed of cylindrical hyphae, arranged more or less parallel to interwoven, 3 to 5 µm wide, those of the upper layer widely spaced by gelatinisation, with pale brown intracellular pigment, often with surface encrustations, septate and with simple septa, clamps absent.
Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia scarce, cylindrical-clavate, 40 to 60 µm long, 5 to 7 µm wide, with abundant brownish encrustations on their surface.
Basidia clavate, 20 to 25 µm long, 4 to 6 µm wide, lacking basal clamps (simple base), 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical-ellipsoidal, smooth, thick-walled, pale yellow under the microscope, 7 to 10 µm long, 2.5 to 3.5 µm wide, with a minute eccentric apiculus at one end, and containing oil droplets of various sizes inside.
