Russula violeipes
Quél.

Study description
Species typical of broadleaves, with a preference for Fagus, with a hemispherical to applanate pileus depressed at the center, 4 to 8 cm across, vinaceous brown with yellowish spots; cream-colored spore print; cavernous stipe, whitish with abundant violaceous flushes most pronounced in the lower portion; cooked shellfish odor and sweet taste.
Cuticle filamentous, formed by interwoven hyphae 3 to 7 µm wide with simple septa, with numerous emergent hairs originating from subglobose to ellipsoidal hyphae 10 to 25 µm long and 8 to 15 µm wide.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, 40 to 80 µm long and 9 to 14 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia of similar morphology, 70 to 110 µm long and 12 to 15 µm wide; both cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia with only faint pigment inside, virtually hyaline.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 45 to 65 µm long, 11 to 14 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores subglobose, with warts up to 0.7 µm high, 6 to 7 µm long, 5.5 to 6.5 µm wide, ornamented with warts coalescing into long anastomosing ridges, in some cases forming a reticulum.
