Study description
Species typical of beechwoods, with a convex to applanate pileus only 3 to 7 cm across, bright yellow; dark cream spore print; white, hollow, clavate stipe; fruity odor and acrid taste.
Cuticle formed by profusely branched hyphae arranged in a palisade, 2 to 3.5 µm wide, with terminal hyphae acting as pileocystidia 3 to 6 µm wide with granular content inside; all septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, terminating in an apical appendage, 35 to 65 µm long and 8 to 10 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia of very similar morphology and dimensions, 30 to 60 µm long and 7 to 10 µm wide; like the cheilocystidia containing faint blackish-grey granular matter inside.
Basidia clavate to ventricose, 30 to 40 µm long, 9 to 11 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores subglobose to ellipsoidal, with warts up to 1.2 µm high, 6.5 to 8.5 µm long, 6 to 7.5 µm wide, ornamented with coarse isolated warts or at most forming very short ridges.
