Russula olivacea
(Schaeff.) Fr.

Study description
Species characteristic of beechwoods, with a hemispherical to slightly depressed pileus 8 to 20 cm in diameter, vinaceous red with olive tints; dark yellow spore print; whitish stipe with pinkish flushes; faint geranium-like odor and mild, nutty taste.
Cuticle filamentous, formed by cylindrical hyphae 3 to 8 µm wide, branched, slightly separated by gelification, multiseptate and without clamp connections. Pileocystidia not observed.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, 70 to 110 µm long and 10 to 14 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia of similar morphology to cheilocystidia, 70 to 90 µm long and 11 to 16 µm wide; both cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia practically hyaline with very little or no content inside.
Basidia clavate, 50 to 65 µm long, 13 to 15 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores subglobose to ellipsoidal, with warts up to 1.5 µm high, 7.5 to 10 µm long, 6.5 to 8 µm wide, ornamented with coarse isolated warts that do not coalesce to form ridges.
