Russula nobilis
Velen.

Study description
Species associated with Fagus, formerly known as Russula mairei, with a hemispherical to applanate pileus with a shallow central depression, 3 to 7 cm across, intense red; pure white spore print; robust white stipe; faint coconut odor and acrid taste.
Cuticle formed by filamentous hyphae 2 to 4 µm wide, sparsely branched, intermixed, widely spaced by gelification, with numerous cylindrical to clavate pileocystidia 6 to 10 µm wide, with one to three septa, containing blackish-grey granular matter, with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, often with an apical appendage, 40 to 70 µm long and 6 to 9 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia of similar morphology, 45 to 80 µm long and 7 to 12 µm wide; both cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia contain abundant blackish-brown granular matter inside.
Basidia clavate, 30 to 40 µm long, 8 to 11 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, with short warts only up to 0.6 µm high, 7.5 to 9.5 µm long, 6.5 to 7.5 µm wide, ornamented with abundant isolated warts interconnected by very fine and discreet connections.
