Russula aurea
Pers.

Study description
Species typical of broadleaf woods such as Fagus or Quercus, with an applanate to centrally depressed pileus 4 to 9 cm across, yellow to reddish orange; pale yellow spore print; white stipe; mild, nutty taste.
Cuticle formed by hyphae arranged more or less parallel to slightly interwoven, 3 to 5 µm wide, hyaline or with faint yellowish intracellular pigment, the upper ones separated by gelification, septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, with an apical appendage (mucronate), 50 to 90 µm long and 7 to 12 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia scattered, with morphology and measurements very similar to cheilocystidia.
Basidia clavate, 35 to 50 µm long, 11 to 14 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores subglobose, with coarse warts up to 1.5 µm high, 7 to 9.5 µm long, 6 to 8 µm wide, surface covered with warts coalescing into more or less long and sinuous ridges with occasional branching, but not joining to form a complete network.
