Rhizopogon roseolus
(Corda) Th.Fr.

Study description
A semi-hypogeous fungus typical of conifers, especially pines, with subglobose to irregular basidiomes 3 to 5 cm long, pinkish yellow to reddish, gleba white to greenish with sporulation, with mycelial cords at the base, fruity odor when fresh and mild taste.
Outer peridial hyphae cylindrical, thick-walled, interwoven, 3 to 7 µm wide, with copious encrusting yellowish-brown intracellular pigment, septate with simple septa (clampless).
Inner peridial hyphae hyaline, moderately thick-walled, 4 to 12 µm wide, often with inflations, septate and without clamp connections.
Tramal hyphae of the gleba supporting the basidia smooth, hyaline, 10 to 24 µm wide, interwoven, with simple septa.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, hyaline, 25 to 30 µm long, 5 to 8 µm wide, clampless at the base, bearing 4, 6, or 8 sterigmata.
Spores ellipsoidal to oblong, smooth, hyaline, thick-walled, 6.5 to 9 µm long, 3.5 to 4.5 µm wide, generally with two oil droplets inside situated at opposite poles, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
