Protostropharia semiglobata
(Batsch) Redhead, Moncalvo & Vilgalys

Study description
In grasslands on heavily manured ground or directly on herbivore dung (cow or horse), with a hemispherical/convex pileus 1 to 3.5 cm across, whitish-cream, viscid when moist, adnate dark brown lamellae with violaceous tints and a whitish edge, a cylindrical stipe slightly enlarged at the base, pale ochre with darker scales below the ring, without distinct odour, and insipid taste.
Pileipellis an ixocutis of parallel filamentous hyphae 2 to 5 µm wide separated by gelatinization, overlying a compact layer 3 to 7 µm wide with yellowish pigment; both septate with clamp connections.
Caulocystidia present at the stipe apex, cylindrical to lageniform, flexuous, clustered into fascicles.
Cheilocystidia abundant, fusiform to lageniform, sinuous with an elongated neck, 45 to 75 µm long, 6 to 10 µm wide, intermixed with chrysocystidia containing refractive inclusions (25 to 35 µm long, 8 to 12 µm wide).
Pleurocystidia (chrysocystidia) scattered, fusiform to clavate, 35 to 60 µm long and 12 to 20 µm wide.
Basidia cylindrical to slightly ventricose, 30 to 40 µm long, 12 to 15 µm wide, simple-septate at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, thick- and smooth-walled, greyish-brown under the microscope, 17 to 20 µm long, 8 to 11 µm wide, with a small eccentric hyaline apiculus at one end and a prominent central germ pore at the other, homogeneous inside.
