An uncommon species restricted to fir forests (Abies), ear-shaped, 0.7–3 cm in diameter by 1.5–6 cm high, with a brownish-ochre inner hymenium drying yellowish light brown, a verrucose to rugose outer surface, and abundant pale ochre basal tomentum.
Special thanks to Juan Andrés Román for providing the material for this study.
Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, with interwoven hyaline hyphae, thin to slightly thick-walled, 4–13 µm wide.
Ectal excipulum of thin-walled textura angularis, hyaline or with faint yellowish intracellular pigment, cells 14–40 µm long by 9–25 µm wide. Outer surface bearing hyphoid hairs up to 170 µm long composed of 3 to 8 subglobose to cylindrical cells constricted at the septa, 8–15 µm wide.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, operculate, measuring 120–190 µm long by 10–12 µm wide, with uniseriate, slightly obliquely overlapping spores concentrated in the upper part of the ascus, forked at the base, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, septate, apically curved and slightly swollen (3–5 µm wide), containing small refractive yellow guttules inside.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, smooth- and thick-walled, slightly asymmetrical, measuring 10–11 µm long by 5.5–6.5 µm wide, containing two large oil guttules inside.
