Mycena acicula
(Schaeff.) P.Kumm.

Study description
On decaying woody debris or leaf litter, preferably under broadleaf trees, minute in size, with a convex pileus 3–8 mm in diameter, orange-red or orange-yellow, and a slender stipe up to 6 cm or longer, hollow, very pale yellow to whitish, with a slightly pruinose surface.
Cuticle (pileipellis) with a superficial layer composed of slender hyphae 1.5–3 µm wide with abundant simple excrescences up to 9 µm long by 1–3 µm wide, underlain by a thick layer of broad, short-celled hyphae 8–12 µm wide.
Hyphae of the cortical layer of the stipe with simple to branched excrescences 3–20 µm long by 2–4 µm wide.
Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia fusiform to clavate, measuring 15–28 µm long by 4–8 µm wide.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 18–24 µm long by 5–7 µm wide, with basal clamps, 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical to fusiform, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, measuring 9–11.5 µm long by 3–4 µm wide, with a more pointed end where the apiculus is located, containing oil droplets of varying size inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
