Leotia lubrica
(Scop.) Pers.

Study description
Basidiomata/Ascomata: Stipitate ascocarps up to 6 cm high, with a convoluted, inrolled pileus ranging from yellowish-green to blackish-brown, growing gregariously to fasciculate.
Excipulum: Medullary excipulum composed of cylindrical, hyaline, thin-walled, septate, branched hyphae 4-5 µm wide, strongly interwoven and separated by a gelatinous matrix (textura intricata). Ectal excipulum with similar gelatinized morphology, terminating at the outer layer in parallel hyphae perpendicular to the surface.
Asci: Cylindric-clavate, 8-spored, inoperculate, 120-160 x 10-14 µm, spore arrangement biseriate to irregular in upper part and uniseriate below, with basal croziers, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses: Filiform, hyaline, septate, smooth-walled, 4-5 µm wide, without apical swellings, richly branched, generally shorter than the asci.
Ascospores: Fusiform to slightly allantoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, containing multiple lipid droplets of variable size.
