(Dicks.) Rostaf., 1874

Study description
General: Very common myxomycete developing on diverse substrates including leaf litter, rotten wood, or living herbs.
Sporocarps: Sessile to short-stalked, crowded in dense colonies, 2-4 mm high, with obovoid or pyriform sporothecae 0.6-1.5 mm in diameter, exhibiting vibrant colors according to maturity: yellow, orange, reddish, chestnut-brown to bronze.
Peridium: Three-layered: an outer cartilaginous layer, a thick calcareous white to cream middle layer, and a delicate membranous inner layer.
Capillitium: Composed of white calcareous nodes interconnected by a delicate network of hyaline, limeless tubules.
Spores: Globose, dark brown under the microscope, 11-13 µm in diameter, ornamented with distinct darker warts. Plasmodium bright yellow.
