Lentinus tigrinus
(Bull.) Fr.

Study description
General: Common lignicolous species along riparian corridors, developing on dead wood of Populus or Salix, pileus infundibuliform with brown scales over a whitish background, and a mild taste.
Pileipellis: Hyphae of the pileus scales filamentous, cylindrical, grouped in bundles, filled with dark brown intracellular pigment; underlying hyphae hyaline, parallel to slightly interwoven, 2-6 µm wide, septate with clamp connections.
Lamellar edge: Lacking differentiated cheilocystidia; occasional narrow hair-like hyphal ends surpass the basidia.
Basidia: Cylindric-clavate, 25-35 x 5-6 µm, with basal clamp connections, 4-spored.
Spores: Cylindric-ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with an inconspicuous eccentric apiculus, containing granular oil droplets, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium voucher: JTP2597/25.
