Lactarius torminosus
(Schaeff.) Pers.

Study description
General: Associated with birch (Betula), pileus concentrically zoned and densely hirsute/shaggy, with unchanging white latex and an acrid taste.
Pileipellis: Suprapellis composed of filamentous hyphae arranged more or less parallel to slightly interwoven, 3-7 µm wide, slightly separated by gelatinization, underlaid by broader globose cells (sphaerocysts).
Cheilocystidia: Fusiform, 43-60 x 7-9 µm.
Pleurocystidia: Scarce, similar in morphology to cheilocystidia, slightly larger, 70-90 x 6-9 µm.
Basidia: Clavate, 35-55 x 9-10 µm, base simple, 4-spored.
Spores: Ellipsoid, with ridges up to 0.8 µm high interconnected into an incomplete reticulum, with a hyaline apiculus, amyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium voucher: JTP2613/25.
