Study description

Species preserved in my archives as Pholiotina mairei, currently Conobolbitina mairei according to Index Fungorum (an epithet not recognized by GBIF, requiring entry under Conocybe mairei = Pholiotina mairei = Conobolbitina mairei).

Saprophytic species on decaying organic matter and rich soil, with a campanulate to convex pileus 3 to 9 mm in diameter, hygrophanous, pale brown when moist, free ochre lamellae, and a cylindrical, fragile, brittle stipe.

Pileipellis a hymeniderm of sphaeropedunculate to pyriform cells 12 to 25 µm in diameter, with scattered filiform pileocystidia 40 to 60 µm long and 1.5 to 4 µm wide.

Caulocystidia present all along the stipe surface, subfusiform to lageniform.

Cheilocystidia lageniform, 20 to 30 µm long and 8 to 16 µm wide.

Pleurocystidia absent.

Basidia clavate, 15 to 20 µm long, 7 to 9 µm wide, with scarce, inconspicuous clamp connections, 4-spored.

Spores ellipsoidal, smooth- and moderately thick-walled, pale yellowish-brown under the microscope, 6.5 to 8 µm long, 3.5 to 4.5 µm wide, with an indistinct apiculus at one end, an apical germ pore at the opposite pole, darkening noticeably to brown in KOH.
