Chamaemyces fracidus
(Fr.) Donk

Study description
Suprapellis hymeniform, composed of clavate to pyriform hyphae arranged in a palisade; also observed in the suprapellis are numerous pyriform hyphae heavily pigmented with brown, far more abundant at the cap centre and responsible for its dark coloration.
Beneath the suprapellis lie hyaline, filamentous hyphae with clamped septa (subpellis).
On the stipe surface are heavily pigmented hyphae corresponding to the guttation exudate.
Cheilocystidia of large dimensions, utriform to fusiform, some containing internal content (chrysocystidia).
Pleurocystidia very similar to cheilocystidia, though larger, scattered but abundant on the lamellar faces.
Basidia clavate and 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, moderately thick-walled, with a very discreet, almost imperceptible lateral apiculus, without reaction in Melzer's reagent (inamyloid).
Herbarium material available: JTP1921/22.
