Helvella fusca
Gillet

Study description
A species that fruits exclusively in spring in poplar groves (Populus spp.), alongside Helvella leucopus; however, this species is considerably more difficult to find. Despite sharing habitat and fruiting season, Helvella fusca is easily distinguished macroscopically by its brown coloration, longitudinally fluted stipe, and veins on the undersurface of the cap.
A rare species in our region, found only in mature poplar groves on sandy soils.
The specimens studied were photographed in the municipality of Valle de Manzanedo (Burgos) in April, in a plantation of Populus x canadensis, growing in small groups.
