Geopora sumneriana
(Cooke ex W.Phillips) M.Torre

Study description
This is a Geopora typical of cedars that makes its appearance from early to mid-spring, commonly found in parks and plantations.
It is a species that attains large sizes for its genus, growing up to 8 cm in diameter. The hymenium is smooth, greyish or cream in color, while the outer surface is brown or reddish-brown and completely covered with hairs.
It is a fungus that can be considered semi-hypogeous, globose in its early developmental stages, which upon emerging opens and splits in a star-like manner.
We have been able to find and photograph this species on numerous occasions, always at the base of Cedrus spp. The macro- and microscopic images we selected correspond to several collections made between February and March in the municipality of Erandio (Bizkaia), under Cedrus atlantica. Another photograph is added from a subsequent collection in the locality of Zalduondo (Álava), also under Cedrus atlantica in April.
