Geoglossum fallax
E.J.Durand

Study description
Species producing apothecia reaching 5 to 6 cm in height. The clavula can be club-shaped or flattened, brownish-black, and velvety when young.
The stipe is concolorous or slightly paler and adorned with small scales very characteristic of the species.
Microscopically characterized by ascospores averaging under 100 µm in length with a highly variable number of transverse septa at maturity (ranging between 3 and 13, occasionally up to 15).
Fruiting from late autumn to early spring in mossy lawns, forests, or gardens.
The microscopic study corresponds to a collection from mossy soil under Chamaecyparis lawsoniana in Orduña (Bizkaia) in late October. An additional photograph shows an earlier collection from Zamudio (Bizkaia), in a grassy garden lawn.
