Xenasmatella ardosiaca
(Bourdot & Galzin) Stalpers

Study description
Formerly known as Phlebiella ardosiaca, on damp decaying wood of angiosperms on the ground, with very thin resupinate basidiomes, pale grey to whitish, with a thread-like, finely reticulate, discontinuous surface revealing the host wood beneath, and poorly defined growth margins.
Hyphal system monomitic, with subhymenial hyphae difficult to dissociate, smooth-walled, hyaline, 2 to 3 µm wide, septate, with clamp connections and often with small ochraceous crystals on their surface.
Cystidia and other sterile hymenial elements absent.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, pleurobasidiate (arranged laterally along the hyphae), 15 to 20 µm long, 6 to 8 µm wide, with basal clamp connections and four-spored.
Spores subglobose to ovoid, hyaline, slightly thick-walled and verrucose, 5 to 5.5 µm long, 4 to 5 µm wide, with a prominent apiculus at one end, densely covered across their entire surface with well-defined warts or spines, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2789/26.
