Vibrissea cesatii
(Mont.) Baral

Study description
Foliicolous species appearing on wet decaying leaves of Quercus on the ground, with turbinate apothecia (shaped like a cup or inverted cone), up to 1 mm tall by 0.4 to 0.5 mm in diameter, yellowish-brown, with darker fibrils on their flanks.
Ectal excipulum of textura globulosa-angularis, formed by hyaline, moderately thick-walled hyphae, 6 to 12 µm in diameter; approaching the outer surface these hyphae elongate in parallel arrangement, forming a textura prismatica.
Asci cylindrical, eight-spored (octosporic), pedicellate, 145 to 165 µm long by 5.5 to 7 µm wide, with spores arranged parallel to each other in fascicles within the ascus, without amyloid reaction of the apical apparatus, but with a dark brown staining of the ascus walls in Lugol's solution.
Paraphyses filiform, septate, 1.5 to 2 µm wide, with apical cell swellings 2.5 to 4 µm wide, with apical branching, slightly projecting above the level of the asci.
Ascospores filiform, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, septate, 100 to 140 µm long by 1.8 to 3 µm wide, non-fragmenting, containing faint lipid droplets inside.
