(Cooke) G.Winter

Study description
A pathogen of fruit trees, especially affecting apple trees, causing lesions in the form of necrotic spots on both leaves and fruits, with a velvety appearance, brown in color, with a diffuse, ill-defined margin.
This study corresponds to the asexual or conidial stage (anamorph) of the species, known as Fusicladium dendriticum or Spilocaea pomi.
With a mycelium that colonizes the subcuticular area of the leaf, forming a dense network of light brown hyphae; these hyphae, through compression, tear the leaf cuticle to release the conidia to the outside.
Conidiogenous cells (or hyphae) simple, erect, cylindrical, olive-brown, 20 to 45 µm long by 4 to 7 µm wide.
Conidia pyriform, very elongated, with one end truncate and the opposite pointed, smooth, thin- to slightly thick-walled, pale olive-brown under the microscope, 20 to 28 µm long by 7 to 9 µm wide, with granular content of lipid droplets inside.
