Tyromyces lacteus
(Fr.) Murrill

Study description
On decaying ground wood, with a preference for broadleaf wood, with effused-reflexed basidiocarps, white, turning creamy to yellowish with development, with 3 to 5 circular to angular pores per mm, white, of soft consistency when fresh, without distinct odour, and with a bitter taste.
Monomitic hyphal system, with context or trama hyphae hyaline, very thick-walled, resembling skeletal hyphae, 4 to 7 µm wide, and subhymenial hyphae thinner-walled, 2 to 4 µm wide, branched, and in both cases septate with coarse clamp connections.
Without cystidia, but with cylindrical hyphae at the pore edges, arranged parallel and with rounded endings.
Basidia clavate, 12 to 18 µm long by 4.5 to 7 µm wide, with basal clamp connections and tetrasporic.
Spores cylindrical to slightly allantoic, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with a poorly prominent apiculus at one end, 4 to 5.5 µm long by 1.2 to 1.8 µm wide, with tiny oil droplets inside, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2235/24.
