Tyromyces chioneus
(Fr.) P.Karst.

Study description
On decaying dead wood of broadleaf trees, with pileate basidiocarps, shell- or fan-shaped, 4 to 10 cm across, with a whitish tomentose surface that becomes glabrous with development, with 3 to 5 circular to angular pores per mm, white, with a faint aromatic odour when fresh, and a sweet (insipid) taste.
Dimitic hyphal system, with thick-walled, straight, unbranched skeletal hyphae, 2 to 5 µm wide, present only in the trama, and generative hyphae tightly compacted in the subhymenium and context, difficult to dissociate, hyaline, thin- to slightly thick-walled, abundantly branched, 3 to 7 µm wide, septate with clamp connections.
Without cystidia, but with some scattered fusiform cystidioles, 15 to 20 µm long by 4 to 5 µm wide, with basal clamp connections.
Basidia clavate, short, 10 to 15 µm long by 4 to 5 µm wide, with basal clamp connections and generally tetrasporic.
Spores cylindrical to allantoic, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with an eccentric apiculus at one end, 4 to 5 µm long by 1.5 to 2 µm wide, with oil drops (guttules) inside, situated preferentially at the poles, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
