Trichophaea pseudogregaria
(Rick) Boud.

Study description
On very damp bare soil, with disc-shaped apothecia having a raised margin, 2 to 5 mm in diameter, whitish to greyish hymenium, and margin covered with brown hairs.
External hairs thick-walled, septate, brown under the microscope, 190 to 300 µm long, maximum width 12 to 18 µm, with a wall thickness of 2 to 3 µm.
Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, formed by irregularly interwoven hyphae, and ectal excipulum of textura globulosa to textura angularis, composed of globose hyphae deformed by mutual pressure, hyaline and thin-walled.
Asci subcylindrical, 8-spored, operculate, 230 to 260 µm long, 14 to 20 µm wide, spore arrangement within the ascus uniseriate (in a row one behind the other), and without any amyloid reaction of either the ascus wall or apical apparatus in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, hyaline, septate, 2 to 3 µm wide, with slight apical enlargements of 4 to 5 µm, projecting slightly above the level of the asci.
Ascospores ellipsoid to fusiform, hyaline, slightly thick-walled and verrucose, 20 to 25 µm long, 10 to 12 µm wide, ornamented with abundant coarse warts, more visible using Lactophenol Cotton Blue.
