Tricholoma stiparophyllum
(N.Lund) P.Karst.

Study description
In meadows, along roadsides, under birches, with a hemispherical to flattened cap, 4 to 10 cm in diameter, with a smooth white to pale cream surface, adnate white to cream gills, a whitish cylindrical stipe that stains brown upon handling or with development, with a strong unpleasant odour and a bitter taste.
Filamentous cuticle formed by cylindrical hyphae arranged more or less parallel to slightly intermixed with each other, 3 to 7 µm wide, those of the upper part slightly separated from each other by gelification, with slight brown intracellular pigment, septate with partially clamped septa.
Without clearly differentiated cystidia, but with abundant sterile cells on the gill edge, clavate to pyriform, 20 to 30 µm long by 8 to 9.5 µm wide.
Lamellar trama regular or parallel.
Basidia cylindric-clavate, 20 to 30 µm long by 6 to 7 µm wide, with basal clamp connections and generally tetrasporic.
Spores ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, with an eccentric apiculus at one end, 6 to 7.5 µm long by 4 to 5 µm wide, with one or more oil drops inside, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2774/25.
