A species typical of pine forests on acidic soils, with a large hemispherical to convex pileus, 8 to 20 cm in diameter, smooth, slightly fibrillose surface, chestnut-brown, adnate cream-colored lamellae that stain with age, subcylindrical stipe with an annular zone, poorly defined odor, and nutty taste.
Cuticle filamentous, composed of cylindrical hyphae arranged more or less parallel to slightly interwoven, 3 to 6 µm wide, with abundant brown pigment inside, uppermost hyphae slightly separated by gelatinization, septate with simple septa (without clamp connections).
Without cystidia.
Lamellar trama regular or parallel.
Basidia clavate, 30 to 45 µm long, 7 to 9 µm wide, with simple base (not clamped), 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 4.5 to 6.5 µm long, 3 to 4 µm wide, with an eccentric apiculus at one end, containing one or several oil droplets inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
