Trichoderma polypori
K.Chen & W.Y.Zhuang

Study description
On the hymenium of various decomposing polypores, with a pruinose, thin appearance formed by whitish cottony colonies that gradually take on greenish tones due to the accumulation of conidia.
Simple conidiophores resembling Verticillium, hyaline, with short branches arising at acute angles from the main axis.
Phialides subulate to lageniform, hyaline, 9 to 18 µm long, maximum width 2.5 to 3.5 µm, and width at the base 1.7 to 3 µm.
Conidia globose to ovoid, smooth and moderately thick-walled, light green under the microscope, 2.5 to 3.7 µm long, 2.3 to 3.5 µm wide, with smooth and homogeneous interior.
Very similar to its congener Trichoderma viride, the latter found on other substrates (soil, bark, or decaying leaf litter) and with larger conidia, 3 to 4.8 µm long.
Herbarium material available: JTP2052/24.
