Microscopía de Trichodelitschia bisporula

Study description

On very damp, decomposing dung of various herbivores such as cows, horses, or deer, with ovoid to pyriform perithecia of very small size, 0.2 to 0.3 mm in diameter, 0.35 to 0.45 mm in height, black, with their surface covered by stiff, pointed hairs (setae).

External hairs thick-walled, dark brown to black, with pointed apex, 100 to 150 µm long, and 4 to 7 µm wide at the base.

Peridial hyphae angular (textura angularis), thin- to slightly thick-walled, with abundant brown pigment inside.

Asci cylindrical, bitunicate, 8-spored, 150 to 180 µm long, 13 to 15 µm wide, spore arrangement in a single row within the ascus (uniseriate), slightly obliquely overlapping, inamyloid (no reaction in Melzer's reagent).

Interascal material in the form of pseudoparaphyses, filamentous, hyaline, septate, 4 to 6 µm wide, slightly swollen and constricted at the septa (moniliform), projecting above the level of the asci.

Ascospores ellipsoid to fusiform, mature ones dark brown under the microscope, with a central septum and a very pronounced constriction at this septum where they tend to break apart, 25 to 28.5 µm long, 9 to 10.5 µm wide, with a central germ pore at each end, and usually enclosed in a hyaline gelatinous sheath covering the entire ascospore surface.
