Study description
On bare soil in very damp areas, beside rivers or streams, with bowl- or cup-shaped ascomata 4 to 10 mm in diameter, pale ochre, with brown external hairs, and fragile, brittle consistency.
External hairs brownish under the microscope, thick-walled, septate, with attenuated ends.
Medullary excipulum hyphae hyaline, with abundant swellings, short septa, strongly interwoven, and beneath these, ectal excipulum hyphae of globose texture (textura globulosa), likewise hyaline and deformed by mutual compression.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, 180 to 200 µm long, 13 to 16 µm wide, spore arrangement within the ascus uniseriate (in a single row), with basal croziers (uncinulate) and an inamyloid reaction in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, smooth, hyaline, septate, 2 to 3 µm wide, with slight enlargement of the apical cells up to 4 µm, projecting slightly above the level of the asci.
Ascospores ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thin- to very slightly thick-walled, 14 to 20 µm long, 7.5 to 11 µm wide, with smooth and homogeneous contents, lacking oil droplets.
