Tremella mesenterica
(Schaeff.) Pers.

Study description
A very common species occurring on decaying dead wood on the ground of broadleaf trees, presumably parasitizing the mycelium of fungi in the genus Peniophora, with cerebriform to lobed fruit bodies, pale yellow to bright yellow, of gelatinous consistency.
Context hyphae hyaline, branched, 1.5 to 3 µm wide, widely separated from each other by gelatinization, septate and with clamp connections at the septa.
Hypobasidia ovoid to ellipsoid, longitudinally septate, 20 to 25 µm long, 14 to 17 µm wide, with 4 long, stout sterigmata.
Spores ovoid to ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 9 to 12 µm long, 5 to 6.5 µm wide, with a faint apiculus at one end, faint granular contents inside, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Conidia not observed; reported in literature as subspherical to ovoid, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 3 to 4.5 µm long and 2.5 to 3.5 µm wide.
