Study description
On decaying hardwood on the ground, in riparian woodland, with ascomata shaped like globose grains, 0.35 to 0.50 mm in diameter, 0.30 to 0.45 mm in height, black, with a short ostiole at the top that opens to release the spores.
Peridial wall hyphae of textura angularis to textura prismatica, thick-walled, with abundant brown intracellular pigment.
Asci clavate, 8-spored, bitunicate, short-pedicellate, 110 to 150 µm long, 13 to 19 µm wide, spore arrangement within the ascus uniseriate below to biseriate in the apical part, with no reaction in Melzer's reagent.
Abundant interascal material resembling paraphyses (pseudoparaphyses), filiform, septate, branched, anastomosing, embedded in a mucilaginous matrix, 1.5 to 2.5 µm wide, projecting considerably above the level of the asci.
Ascospores fusiform, smooth, thin-walled, 1- to 3-septate, brown under the microscope, constricted at the central septum, 25 to 35 µm long, 7.5 to 9 µm wide, with oil droplets of various sizes inside.
