Tilachlidium brachiatum
(Batsch) Petch

Study description
On a fir stump over an undetermined decaying polypore, being the anamorph (asexual or imperfect stage) of Pseudonectria tilachlidii, colloquially termed the "cactus fungus" due to its appearance, with white synnemata resembling long spines with pointed tips, 1 to 4 mm long and only 0.1 to 0.2 mm wide, fruiting gregariously over the substrate.
Main stipe supporting the synnema up to 200 µm wide, composed of parallel, cylindrical hyaline hyphae.
Phialides arising laterally from the synnema, hyaline, branched, with pointed tips, 30 to 45 µm long and 2 to 4 µm wide at the base.
Conidia ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 3 to 5 µm long, 1.3 to 2 µm wide, with homogeneous, slightly granular contents.
