Tapinella atrotomentosa
(Batsch) Šutara

Study description
On conifer stumps or roots, such as Pinus, Larix, or Picea, with a flattened pileus, 6 to 20 cm in diameter, brown, with decurrent cream-colored lamellae, a dark blackish-brown lateral stipe, lacking a distinct odor, and with a sweet to very slightly bitter taste.
Cuticle filamentous, composed of hyphae arranged parallel to irregularly interwoven, 4 to 10 µm in diameter, with abundant brownish intracellular pigment, septate and with clamp connections.
Stipe surface with hairs composed of hyphae grouped into fascicles, containing brownish pigment inside like those of the pileipellis.
Lamellar edge fertile, without elements differentiated from basidia (homomorphic).
Lamellar trama bilateral.
Basidia cylindric-clavate, 35 to 40 µm long, 6 to 8 µm wide, with basal clamp connections, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoid, smooth, thick-walled, pale yellow under the microscope, 4.5 to 6 µm long, 3.5 to 4 µm wide, with a tiny, nearly imperceptible apiculus at one end, containing some oil droplets inside, and dextrinoid in Melzer's reagent.
