Suillus mediterraneensis
(Jacquet. & J.Blum) Redeuilh

Study description
A species typical of pine forests, with a hemispherical to convex cap, 6 to 10 cm in diameter, viscid orange-brown surface, round to angular yellow pores, a whitish cylindrical stipe with abundant brown granulations on its surface, yellow flesh on cutting, without distinctive odour and sweet (fungal) in taste.
Pileipellis composed of filamentous, interwoven hyphae, 2 to 6 µm wide, the surface ones separated by gelatinisation, with brown intracellular pigment, fine surface encrustations, septate and without clamp connections.
Terminal hyphae functioning as caulocystidia in the stipe granulations, fasciculate, clavate, 55 to 65 µm long, 7 to 15 µm wide, with abundant brown granular contents inside.
Cheilocystidia clavate, 40 to 60 µm long, 6 to 10 µm wide, containing brown pigment inside.
Basidia cylindrical to slightly clavate, 25 to 40 µm long, 5 to 8 µm wide, with a simple base, 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical-ellipsoidal to slightly fusiform, smooth, thick-walled, pale yellowish-ochraceous under the microscope, 8 to 11 µm long, 3 to 4 µm wide, with a minute eccentric apiculus at one end, containing oil droplets inside.
