Study description
On very damp, decorticated decaying ground wood, with subglobose to irregular ascomata 0.3 to 0.7 mm in diameter, up to 0.4 mm high, white becoming yellowish grey at maturity, with basal hairs corresponding to the anamorph (asexual or imperfect stage of the species).
Basal hairs corresponding to the conidiophores of the anamorph, brown under the microscope, thick-walled, septate, producing fusiform to navicular conidia, brownish under the microscope and generally 7-septate.
Ectal excipulum of textura porrecta to prismatica, with hyaline hyphae, in the median portion 10 to 22 µm long and 4 to 6 µm wide.
Asci cylindrical-clavate, eight-spored, 150 to 210 µm long, 14.5 to 17 µm wide, with biseriate to triseriate spore arrangement occupying slightly more than the upper half of the ascus, with basal croziers and an inamyloid apical apparatus in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, thin-walled, multiseptate, without apical enlargements, 2 to 4 µm wide, generally simple, sparsely branched, projecting slightly above the asci.
Ascospores subcylindrical, slightly allantoid, smooth, slightly thick-walled, 5- to 7-septate, 35 to 50 µm long, 3.5 to 5 µm wide, containing abundant oil droplets (guttules) of varying size inside.
