Stemonitis inconspicua
Nann.-Bremek., 1966

Study description
On decaying dead wood, with stalked sporocarps, 4 to 8 mm in total height, with a cylindrical brown sporotheca 3 to 7 µm long, and with a short, shiny black stipe up to 0.5 mm long.
Columella reaching the apex of the sporotheca, tapering progressively from the base.
Capillitium brown, with filaments in the internal net forming wide meshes, with thickenings at the intersections, and at the periphery with more slender filaments, forming an irregular, incomplete net of smaller meshes with many free ends.
Spores globose, reddish-brown under the microscope, 6.5 to 8 µm in diameter, with warts or spines up to 1 µm high forming a distinct, complete reticulum of 2 to 3 wide meshes.
A species very similar to its congener Stemonitis virginiensis, the latter having smaller spores 5 to 6.5 µm in diameter.
