Study description
On very damp decaying ground wood, with sessile, disc-shaped apothecia 0.4 to 1 cm in diameter, orange, with the margin fringed with brown hairs.
Marginal hairs thick-walled, septate, brown under the microscope, simple-based or bifurcate, 380 to 830 µm long and 18 to 35 µm wide.
Asci cylindrical, eight-spored, operculate, 220 to 250 µm long, 15 to 20 µm wide, with uniseriate spore arrangement inside the ascus, basal croziers, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, septate, 2.5 to 4 µm wide, with terminal cell enlargements of 6 to 10 µm, containing granular orange intracellular pigment, barely projecting above the asci.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, with warts up to 1.5 µm high, 16 to 19.5 µm long, 10 to 12 µm wide, ornamented with coarse isolated warts, more visible using lactophenol cotton blue.
