Study description
On very damp decaying ground wood, with sessile, disc-shaped apothecia 2 to 7 mm across, bright orange, with brown marginal hairs.
Marginal hairs thick-walled, septate, brown under the microscope, with a simple, bifurcate to trifurcate base, 300 to 750 µm long and 25 to 45 µm wide at the base.
Medullary excipulum of textura intricata, formed by intermixed hyphae 10 to 16 µm in diameter.
Ectal excipulum of textura globulosa-angularis, with subcylindrical to subclavate hyphae 40 to 80 µm long and 15 to 30 µm wide, containing faint brownish pigment inside.
Asci cylindrical, eight-spored, operculate, 180 to 210 µm long, 11 to 13 µm wide, with uniseriate spore arrangement, basal croziers, and inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses filiform, septate, unbranched, 2.5 to 4 µm wide, with apical enlargements of the terminal cell of 6 to 10 µm, containing refringent orange intracellular content, projecting above the asci.
Ascospores ellipsoidal, hyaline, with low warts up to 0.5 µm high, 16 to 20 µm long, 12 to 14 µm wide, surface covered with isolated warts visible with lactophenol cotton blue.
