(Singer) Romagn.

Study description
Species characteristic of montane conifers, also known as Russula firmula, with a convex to applanate pileus with a central depression, 3 to 6 cm in diameter, vinaceous brown to violaceous; dark yellow spore print; clavate stipe, white to greyish; mild fungal odor and acrid taste.
Cuticle formed by filamentous, branched hyphae 2 to 5 µm wide, septate, with scattered cylindrical to clavate pileocystidia 4 to 9 µm wide containing granular matter inside.
Cheilocystidia fusiform, 50 to 90 µm long and 7 to 10 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia of similar morphology, 60 to 95 µm long and 9 to 12 µm wide; both cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia containing copious content inside.
Basidia clavate, 40 to 55 µm long, 12 to 14 µm wide, simple-based and generally four-spored.
