Russula fragrantissima
Romagn.

Study description
Species typical of broadleaf forests, with a convex to applanate pileus 6 to 12 cm across, ochraceous to reddish; pale cream spore print; hollow stipe, whitish with reddish-brown tones; unpleasant odor reminiscent of bitter almonds and sweet, nauseating taste.
Cuticle formed by filamentous hyphae widely spaced by gelification, 4 to 5.5 µm wide, with abundant terminal hyphae acting as pileocystidia or dermatocystidia, subcylindrical to clavate, 4 to 6 µm wide, with ochraceous granular content inside, septate with simple septa.
Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia cylindrical to clavate, often mucronate (with a short apical neck), 40 to 90 µm long, 9 to 15 µm wide, with faint granular content inside.
Basidia clavate, 40 to 60 µm long, 9 to 13 µm wide, simple-based and four-spored.
Spores globose to subglobose, with warts up to 1.5 µm high, 7.5 to 10.5 µm long, 7 to 10 µm wide, ornamented with coarse warts coalescing into long, thick ridges, forming an incomplete reticulum.
