Study description

General: Minute cupulate ascomycete occurring on decaying fallen leaves, particularly Quercus or Fagus, apothecia sessile, cup-shaped, only 0.2-0.5 mm in diameter, with a greyish-cream hymenium displaying bluish tones, and a dark brown receptacle.

Marginal hairs: Cylindrical, smooth-walled, arranged parallel, 3-4 µm wide, containing dense brown intracellular pigment, apices rounded.

Excipulum: Ectal excipulum of textura globoso-angularis, composed of thick-walled cells 8-18 µm in diameter, filled with brown intracellular pigment.

Asci: Cylindric-clavate, 8-spored, 35-50 x 4.5-6 µm, with basal croziers, apical apparatus amyloid in Melzer's reagent.

Paraphyses: Filiform, branched from the base, septate, 2-3 µm wide, slightly projecting above asci.

Ascospores: Cylindrical to slightly fusiform, with one pole slightly more tapered, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 6-9.5 x 1.5-2.4 µm, contents homogeneous without evident guttules.
