Pyrenopeziza chamaenerii
Nannf.

Study description
On decaying stems of Epilobium hirsutum on the ground, with disc-shaped apothecia having an elevated margin, 0.2 to 0.6 mm in diameter, bluish-grey, with a finely hairy, whitish margin.
Marginal perimeter hairs short, septate, arranged in a palisade; basal cells filled with brown intracellular pigment, apical cells hyaline, conferring the whitish margin to the apothecium.
Ectal excipulum hyphae globose to polyhedral, thick-walled, with very abundant dark brown intracellular pigment, 10 to 25 µm in diameter.
Asci cylindrical-clavate, 8-spored, 45 to 60 µm long, 5 to 7.5 µm wide, biseriate to irregular, with basal croziers, and with an amyloid apical apparatus in Melzer's reagent.
Paraphyses scarce, filiform, hyaline, 2 to 3 µm in diameter, usually not exceeding the level of the asci.
Ascospores cylindrical to slightly fusiform, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 5 to 7 µm long, 1.8 to 2.6 µm wide, unicellular and without conspicuous guttules, virtually homogeneous.
