(Pers.) Zmitr. & Kovalenko

Study description
On decaying buried roots and dead wood of broadleaved trees, with a flattened to infundibuliform pileus 3 to 10 cm across with an undulating margin, pale brown, finely squamulose, a white to pale cream pore surface with 3 to 4 circular to angular pores per mm, and a velvety dark brown to black stipe.
Hyphal system dimitic: contextual skeletal hyphae thick-walled, hyaline, 3 to 7 µm wide, branched; generative hyphae thin-walled, 3 to 5 µm wide, septate with clamp connections.
Pileipellis of interwoven filamentous hyphae 4 to 6 µm wide, containing abundant brown intracellular pigment, septate with clamps.
Hymenium lacking differentiated cystidia, but with scattered fusiform cystidioles of similar dimensions to the basidia.
Basidia clavate, 18 to 25 µm long, 5 to 8 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores cylindrical-ellipsoidal, smooth, hyaline, thin-walled, 6 to 8.5 µm long, 3 to 4 µm wide, with a slightly pointed apicular end, containing guttules, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
Herbarium material available: JTP2567/25.
