Study description
In my opinion perhaps the most abundant Myxomycete, on decaying wood or bark on the ground, with stalked sporocarps 1 to 1.5 mm in total height, with a globose to lenticular sporotheca 0.5 to 0.7 mm in diameter, white to grey or yellowish; peridium dehiscing irregularly in lobes or large plates, leaving the base of the sporotheca persistent; stipe long, cylindrical, with an enlarged base, black at the base and whitish to ochre at the apex.
Peridium single, thin, with abundant white calcium particles.
Columella absent.
Capillitium formed by very slender filaments, pale brown to hyaline, with abundant nodules of white lime.
Spores globose, violaceous brown under the microscope in water, 8.5 to 10 µm in diameter, minutely verrucose, with numerous darker warts irregularly distributed over their surface.
