(Cooke) Van Vooren

Study description
Species growing directly on soil among plant litter or on decaying wood, with cup-shaped apothecia having an undulating margin, 3 to 10 cm in diameter, smooth brown hymenium, and finely granulose external surface.
Medullary excipulum composed of globose hyphae 30 to 70 µm in diameter, interconnected by densely interwoven cylindrical hyphae 4 to 9 µm wide.
Ectal excipulum of textura intricata, composed of subglobose to irregular hyphae, terminating externally in erect, hair-like, subcylindrical to fusiform hyphae filled with brown intracellular pigment.
Asci cylindrical, 8-spored, operculate, 250 to 320 µm long, 12 to 17 µm wide, uniseriate, with an amyloid reaction in Melzer's reagent on both the apex and the ascus walls.
Paraphyses filamentous, smooth, hyaline, septate, branched from the base, practically cylindrical without noticeable apical swellings, 3 to 4.5 µm wide, containing guttules inside.
Ascospores ellipsoidal to subfusiform, hyaline, with a verrucose wall bearing warts 0.3 to 0.5 µm high, 19.5 to 23.5 µm long, 10 to 11.5 µm wide, without conspicuous oil drops inside.
