(Pers.) Singer

Study description
On decaying dead wood on the ground under both conifers and broadleaved trees, with a convex to flattened pileus 3 to 9 cm in diameter, strongly glutinous in wet weather, brownish to cream, darker at the disc, with a whitish margin adorned with veil remnants, adnate white lamellae becoming brown with spore maturation, a cylindrical stipe with white squamules over a pale brown background, fungal odour, and mild taste.
Pileipellis an ixocutis composed of filamentous hyphae 2 to 8 µm wide, the uppermost ones hyaline and widely separated in a thick gelatinous matrix, overlying more compact hyphae with abundant brown intracellular pigment; septate with clamp connections.
Cheilocystidia fusiform to lageniform, thin- to very slightly thick-walled, 45 to 60 µm long and 10 to 15 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia similar, some with pale yellowish intracellular pigment, but not typical chrysocystidia.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 20 to 30 µm long, 7 to 9 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal to reniform, flattened on one side, thick- and smooth-walled, yellowish-grey under the microscope, 6.5 to 9 µm long, 4.5 to 5.5 µm wide, with a tiny eccentric apiculus at one pole and lacking an evident germ pore.
