Study description
Species typical of broadleaved or mixed woodlands, on decaying fallen logs and stumps, with a convex to flattened pileus 3 to 6 cm across, sticky when moist, covered with dark reddish-brown squamules arranged concentrically, adnate ochraceous-brown lamellae, a cylindrical stipe covered in brown squamules over a whitish background, faint odour, and mild fungal taste.
Pileipellis an ixocutis composed of filamentous hyphae arranged more or less parallel, 2 to 5 µm wide, separated by a gelatinous matrix, containing abundant brown encrusting intracellular pigment, septate with clamp connections.
Cheilocystidia cylindrical, flexuous, some slightly capitate, 28 to 40 µm long and 6 to 9 µm wide.
Pleurocystidia (chrysocystidia) fusiform, 40 to 60 µm long, 9 to 14 µm wide, containing abundant yellow refractive granular inclusions inside.
Basidia cylindrical-clavate, 20 to 25 µm long, 5 to 7 µm wide, clamped at the base, 4-spored.
Spores ellipsoidal, thick- and smooth-walled, pale yellowish-brown under the microscope, 5 to 7 µm long, 3.5 to 4.5 µm wide, with a tiny eccentric apiculus at one pole and a faint germ pore at the other, inamyloid in Melzer's reagent.
